Social Security

Nashville Social Security Disability Lawyer

Often there is a misconception that Social Security benefits are available to only the elderly or to adults unable to work due to significant physical difficulty. In actuality, Social Security benefits may be granted to individuals of all ages when there is a physical disability or mental health issue.

At the Nashville offices of Middle Tennessee Law, an Association of Attorneys, we offer assistance to individuals who have been denied Social Security. If your initial application for disability benefits has been turned down, our legal team can help you fight for the money you deserve.

Qualifying for Social Security Benefits

There are two types of Social Security disability benefits: Social Security disability insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Though both provide financial assistance, there are differences in eligibility:

  • Social Security disability insurance is based upon work history. To be eligible to receive SSDI following a disabling injury or event, a worker must have worked 10 out of the last 20 quarters (or three-month periods) and be currently unable to work at any job.
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI) provides a monthly stipend to the disabled or elderly based on individual need. SSI offers financial assistance to those with limited assets and to those who do not have enough work credits to qualify for SSDI.

In our experience, the majority of initial applications for Social Security disability benefits are denied. If this happens to you, do not give up. There are follow-up steps that can be taken to obtain reconsideration of an application, and we will guide you through the process.

The lawyers at Middle Tennessee Law work extensively with a master's level social worker and other experts in the field to assist you in collecting proper evidence and medical documentation. We will then prepare a compelling case for your appeal.
